Supplies to keep at home for school projects

  If you've ever run to Wal-Mart after dark for posterboard, you are probably a mom helping a procrastinating child finish a school project.   Here's how to avoid the "freak out" run for supplies.  Have these supplies in ONE location in your home, otherwise you are running to the store because, let's be honest, it's easier than tearing apart your house looking for a ruler.   Box of crayons, map pencils, and markers.  These should be kept "off limits" unless your child is working on a project.  Otherwise they will find their way into sink drains, laundry dryers, and at the bottom of toy boxes.   Posterboard.  White.   Glue sticks.  Get at least five because they tend to disintegrate into thin air.  A ruler Pencils and a pencil sharpener.   Paper: lined and printer paper Stencil lettering (if your child is a "serious" project creator). Mom, How do I get my child to eat veggies?

We don't give birth to picky eaters.  We make them picky eaters.  How do we teach them to try new things?  First, pick some veggies that you would like your child to try.  Check out the list below.  Pick veggies that they may not have sampled before.  Then, make it a competition.  Kid's love anything with some sort of prize at the end.  Invest in a one- dollar posterboard and divide it into sections (one section for each new vegetable that you want to try).  Let your child cut out pictures from a grocery add or print out pictures from the internet to glue onto the board.  They can also go shopping with you to pick out the veggie of the week.   As your child tries each new veggie, let them check it off.  When they have tried all of them on the posterboard, celebrate with some sort of prize (popcorn/movie night).  You can also encourage better snacking habits if you set out some veggies with dip (carrots/cucumber/celery...

Healthy home lunch

 Ditch the packaged, prepared foods.   Instead of chips, try: cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, carrots, celery, or sliced bell peppers Instead of cookies, try yogurt, apple slices with dip, applesauce, fruit, pudding, or bananas Instead of flavored drinks, try water with some lemon in it.  Tired of making sandwiches?  How about a cheesy roll up?  crackers and cheese, chicken salad with celery, or a thermos filled with soup?
